Curriculum Information
MATH:
We use Saxon Math in both our preschool and prek classrooms. This curriculum provides unique hands-on activities and rich mathematical conversations that actively engage students in the learning process. Concepts are developed, reviewed, and practiced in order to develop strong math skills over time. Children will learn proper writing, recognizing, and counting numbers, along with graphing, sorting, and adding skills.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
Handwriting Without Tears enhances school readiness providing a foundation of strong reading and writing skills, by identifying the developmental stages for handwriting. This program addresses the five critical knowledge areas including: oral language, phonological awareness, concepts of print, knowledge of the alphabet, and early reading comprehension.
PHONICS:
Strong phonics skills are an essential part of the learning process for children. It is for this reason we use Spalding Phonics curriculum to teach children proper phonological letter sounds.
READING:
Once children accomplish their letter recognition and basic phonics comprehension, children will begin strengthening their reading skills individually through weekly reading groups. Children will read at their own level, and move from level to level at their own individual pace.
COMPUTERS:
Each classroom is equipped with a computer station. Children will have a chance to learn and explore computers individually on a monthly basis.
ARTS & CRAFTS:
Weekly arts & crafts include cutting, pasting, painting, coloring and creating using our own imaginations! This all leads to a fun and messy way of enjoying art!
MUSIC:
Children experience musical instruments along with singing and dancing in their classroom on a weekly basis. All students will learn special poems and/or holiday songs, which will be performed on stage for friends and families at our annual holiday show, held at the Queen Creek Performing Arts Center.
SHOW & TELL:
Each week a student will be randomly chosen to be Student of the Week. This includes taking home the classroom pet, and creating a collage of pictures "all about me." At the end of the week students will be allowed to bring in something for show and tell. This teaches children the skills for public speaking by learning to stand up in front of their peers.
SPANISH:
Children will be taught basic Spanish words monthly, with a special foreign language program, that is integrated into our monthly curriculum. Children will learn through the use of familiar themes and vocabulary. This allows students to learn basic communication skills in Spanish while having fun!
FREE TIME ACTIVITIES:
Water and sand tables, blocks, play dough, puppet shows, kitchen play, and other manipulatives are great resources for children to explore and engage in, emphasizing on strong socialization skills.
